When the announcement of winners was about to commence, the lowest scoring girl made no attempt to hide her deep dejection.
"They are not going to give me any present."
"It's the fun you enjoy during game that matters, not the prize, girl."
She sat slumped and continued to sulk.
Then her name was called out.
"Congratulations to the most resilient!"
At the start of the game, she was crying as wearing the bowling shoes was unfamiliar and painful to her. She did not want to play.
The volunteers coaxed her back into the game. Their non-judgmental, patient and fun-loving presence won her over. Despite scoring the lowest, she continued to play till the end.
After receiving the prize, she returned to her seat beaming with pride.
"Never give up! Never give up!"
She said repeatedly to herself with zealous gusto, newly convinced in the power of determination. Providence has led us to give the prize to the one who needed it the most.
We smiled with amusement as she went around and chanted the mantra to energise others around her too.
We felt a sense of achievement knowing that we have made a meaningful difference not just to her but to all the kids that day.
This exclusive bowling session at The Chinese Swimming Club was made possible only because of the dedication and generosity from our Saints Family, SMT Group and The Facilitators' Project volunteers.
A gazillion thank you volunteers and may you be blessed abundantly!
