Barefooted, Dean Ng and the kids were eagerly gathered around the grass area of Marina Barrage.

The squid kite was flying spectacularly almost 20m high in the sky.

"Can we bring it lower please?" One of the girls asked meekly.

"Why?" Dean was perplexed.

"Because I'm afraid of heights."

"You do realise that you are not the one up there, right? You are safe here. It's alright."

In that magical moment, Dean brought her out of her unconscious reliving of traumatic fear and into perspective taking and resilience in the present moment.

It was actually Brenda Ng's idea to fly kites after the sensory activities at Gardens by the Bay. The Facilitators' Project team are grateful for the partnership with them that are very aligned with our advocacy in sustainability and nature.

The kids also get to choose their own activities apart from flying kites. Some were seated around on our mats playing cards, some busy doing cartwheels, playing catch and some just busy non-stop chomping on the artisan breads provided by our volunteer baking team.

Thank you so much Tina Wong (for the sourdough and panettones), Eleanor (for the rice bread nuggets and gluten free waffles) and Jo Teo (for the hot crossed buns and the caramelised onions sourdough). You three gave us a delicately prepared feast that the kids could visually enjoy and do a tactile squeeze.

Without your contributions, our session couldn't be called a picnic at all. With your contributions, the hungry kids were well provided for and they get to taste the goodness of healthier home-made options created with love
